Hotel deserted as seven die in Delta accident

Seven employees of a new hotel along the Ozoro-Asaba Expressway, Ellu, in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, were killed in a road accident on Wednesday.
The hotel said to be owned by a man nicknamed Oduduyekeyeke was deserted as the news of the death of the seven men, including the hotel manager, broke.

An eyewitness said the accident occurred around 8pm about a kilometre from the hotel.
The vehicle conveying the employees was said to be returning from a sensitisation rally organised by the management for the newly employed workers when it ran into a stationary lorry, killing seven out of the eight passengers in the bus.

A source in the family of one of the deceased said the death of the boys from Ozoro was ‘’suspicious’’.
He alleged all the boys that wore the hotel branded T-shirts died, except the one who refused to wear the shirt.

However, it was learnt, that the hotel management attempted, with the help of middle men, to quietly negotiate for compensation over the death of the boys, a move which the deceased families rejected.
The Ozoro Divisional Police Officer, Godwin Dagbar, a Chief Superintendent of Police, confirmed the accident, saying the vehicles involved in the accident had been moved to the police station.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Niger Delta Youth Movement on Thursday condemned the killing and violent crimes in Delta State.
The group lamented the kidnap of the Warri Area Manager of PPMC, Mr. William Enoh, and the death of a security aide attached to him.

In a statement by the National President, Mr. Godspower Odenema, the group urged all youths involved in violent crimes in the state to stop forthwith.
It said, “It is with great sadness that the leadership and entire members of the Niger Delta Youth Movement condemn the kidnap of the Area Manager of the Warri PPMC and the killing of his security aide.

“It is high time the people of this region that are still involved in such anti-social acts stopped it because such acts as kidnapping, pipeline vandalism, shutdown of oil well, illegal bunkering and all other acts portray this region in a bad light.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger receives Uefa ban & fine

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
Arsenal's Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger has been banned for three matches and fined 40,000 euros (£33,000) for his conduct in Arsenal's Champions League defeat by AC Milan.
Wenger confronted referee Damir Skomina after his side's 3-0 second-leg win at Emirates Stadium, which could not prevent them losing 4-3 on aggregate.

“I believe that when you have 25 years consecutively in Europe you can still ask the referee that you can have some discussion with him. It is very difficult to understand”

"It's not justified and I will straight away appeal," said Wenger, who has three days to lodge his complaint.
The Frenchman has now received three Uefa bans in the space of a year.
This latest punishment comes after he took issue with Skomina on the pitch after the final whistle.
He also criticised the Slovenian official in his post-match comments, claiming too many free-kicks were awarded to Milan.

Speaking before hearing of his reprimand, Wenger commented: "I believe that they have transformed Uefa competition referees to be untouchable icons, where you cannot even have a word.
"The only thing they understand after the game is the report.
"I believe that when you have 25 years consecutively in Europe you can still ask the referee that you can have some discussion with him. It is very difficult to understand."

Uefa gave Wenger a one-match ban for confronting referee Massimo Busacca following Arsenal's European exit to Barcelona last season.
The Gunners boss was then handed a further two-match suspension in August for violating his Barcelona ban.
That was the result of him communicating with the Arsenal bench from the stands during Arsenal's Champions League play-off tie against Udinese.

"The first time was not justified," Wenger added. "The second time was a joke because they told me what to do and afterwards they told me 'no, sorry, that was wrong'.
"So at the moment I have difficulties with Uefa and I can take what is wrong on my side, but in these different situations I think they go a little bit overboard if they suspend me."

Day 4: The Hotel World's Most Striking Architecture - Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

The trio of 55-story towers that make up Singapore's Marina Bay Sands include hotel rooms, a museum, a casino, a convention center, and a waterfront promenade.

There are an incredible 2,561 hotel rooms at the Marina Bay Sands.

Moshe Safdie, the architect of the Marina Bay Sands, has said one of the challenges was to "address the issue of megascale and invent an urban landscape that would work on the human scale." His solution was to design the complex around two central axes to give a sense of orientation.

The three towers of Marina Bay Sands are connected by the two-and-a-half-acre SkyPark, which has gardens, an observatory, and a 492-foot swimming pool.
