Alexander Joseph, a kick-boxer a.k.a “Ibom,” was killed by gunmen at the Uyo Township stadium yesterday during a training session.
The sportsman was attacked by five assailants on Saturday at about 9.30 a.m. According to source, Ibom had been trailed the victim to the stadium where they inflicted several machete cuts on him and fired three gunshots into his neck.
Athletes who were in training with Ibom before the attack, said that the deceased was in excellent form, as he prepared for the 2012 National Sports Festival scheduled for Lagos later in the year.
They described the murder of Ibom as terrifying, describing how he attempted to resist the assassins.
