Why do we suddenly see BRT buses broken down all over the place?

Like a bolt out of the blues, broken down BRT buses have started littering the street of Lagos.
Is this due to poor maintenance or what?
I have had cause to change BRT buses on several occasion because they broke down!
The strange thing is that these buses are run by private operators so why have they abandon routine maintenance for their buses which are the most vital tools of their business? Why have they adopted the non-nonchalance to maintenance culture previously ascribed to government-run projects?
Commuters pay their fares and advertisers pay heavily to brand these buses so what possible reason(s) could be given for these poorly maintained buses?
Any suggestions on what can be done to make these buses function optimally?
