Toddler's terror: Neighbour's dog tears off ear and nose of boy, 2

Kieron Guess, the victim
A toddler has undergone seven hours of surgery after his nose and left ear were ripped off by a neighbour’s dog.
Keiron Guess, two, also suffered horrific eye and head injuries when he was mauled as he played in an alley yards from his home.
Grandad Dave Guess, 49, heard the boy screaming and was bitten on his arms and hands as he helped rescue Keiron from the vicious Staffordshire bull terrier.
The boy was in an induced coma yesterday as he recovered from reconstructive surgery.

His other grandad, Sean Leonard, 46, said yesterday: “The dog took his left ear off and most of his nose. His left eye was hanging out.
“He has injuries from his forehead to his chin – there were holes in his face. The dog also took a chunk out of the back of his head.
“The dog had escaped from a garden nearby. Dave got there pretty quickly and he managed to pull Keiron on to his shoulders but the dog was still jumping up at him.
"He undoubtedly saved Keiron’s life.
“I was with Keiron in the ambulance and he was staring at me with both eyes. He has been so brave.”

The boy was playing as relatives gathered at his house to celebrate the jubilee.
Distressed parents scaffolder Anthony Guess, 23, and pregnant Stacey Drury, 22, were yesterday keeping a vigil at his hospital bed.
Stacey’s mum, Michaela, 40, said: “His nose has been reconstructed but they do not know how his eyes will be affected.
"They tried to rebuild part of his ear too. He has scars all across his face.
“He was also bitten across the legs and is breathing with the aid of a ventilator.”
Keiron’s mum said on Facebook: “Just waiting for my gorgeous baby. Just want to hold you in our arms.”

Snarling: Dogs at neighbour's house during raid

Neighbour Gary King said the dog was owned by his 15-year-old son.
Gary said he had investigated when he “heard squeaking” after the dog went outside.
He added: “At first I thought the dog was playing with a chicken. Then I thought the neighbours had thrown a dolly over the fence.
"But then I saw all the blood. I ran and separated the dog from the baby.
"I was holding him above my head then the parents came out and I had to deal with them. It wasn’t nice."
Police, who said last night that Keiron was critical but stable, added that an officer was bitten by a dog at Gary’s home last year.
The force said: “The animal was assessed at the time and was found not to be a dangerous dog breed. No further action was taken.
“We can’t yet confirm if this was the dog that attacked the two-year-old boy.”
The dog that mauled Keiron was handed to police by its owner and has been destroyed.
