Muslims, Christians hold joint protest in Rivers

Muslims and Christians in Port Harcourt on Thursday 1st of march'12 staged a demonstration to condemn the Boko Haram violence in parts of the country.Christian and Muslim leaders in the state, marched to the Government House, Port Harcourt, carrying placards with inscriptions such as: ‘Muslim and Christians are serving a peaceful God’ and ‘Shun violence.’
one of the group leaders, Pastor Godwill Okafor, said, “We came together to exchange ideas and to make the public know that Muslims and Christians are serving one God. We intend to achieve that by bringing them together with the view to removing that erroneous belief in them.”Also, leader of the Islamic preachers in Rivers, Alhaji Haliru Imam, said the coming together of Christians and Muslims was to condemn the killing of innocent people in parts of the country in the name of one religion
“So we felt it is important to sit with Christian leaders to reach a common understanding. It is in that regard that we decided to organise this peaceful rally to send a message that we are peace loving people and that we are living in peace here in Rivers.”
