Manchester City: The newly crowned Barclay's Premier League Champions! |
At full time, it was still QPR 2, Man City 1 and most thought Man United had won their 20th English Premier League title with their hard-fought lone goal victory over a resilient Sunderland side. But that was not to be as City managed to put two past QPR within the 5 minutes of extra time. That's the stuff champions are made of. They kept probing a well-organised QPR defense till they found the net twice in 4 minutes.
Elsewhere, Arsenal managed to clinch third spot which automatically qualifies them for Champions' League next season. There were calls of injustice as the match officials blatantly allowed an offside goal to stand in favour of West Brom. But Arsenal stepped up to the plate and secured a well-deserved victory which handed them an automatic Champions' League qualification ahead of their bitter North London rival, Tottenham Hotspurs who also won their match by beating Fulham by 2 goals.
If Chelsea wins the Champions' league next week, they automatically become the fourth team from England at the Champion's League which will "relegate" fourth-placed Spurs to the Europa League.
Arsenal's Robin van Persie ended up as the highest goal scorer in the Barclay's Premier League for the 2011/2012 season - with a total of 30 goals (EPL). He is closely followed by Wayne Rooney (Man United) with 26 goals and Sergio Aguero (Man City) with 22 goals!
