She was a top executive of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, head office in Abuja. Her immediate family lived in Auchi while she lived in the Garki area of the FCT with a male house help. She also maintains two other male domestic staff, a driver and a security man. To make up for the distance, she visited Auchi often to spend time with the family. Her name is Hajia Afshatu Abdullahi.
expecting her home in Auchi. She even called her husband to intimate him she was on her way to see them. Unfortunately, she never showed up. All efforts to reach her on her GSM mobile phone proved abortive. Her husband also tried to reach her at work, but no one had seen her. Left with no other option, the husband set out for Abuja in search of his wife.
The search party got to Hajia Afshatu's house to find the house abandoned; aside from the security man, no one else was around. When he was queried, the security man said he hadn't seen his madam for a few days and assumed she had travelled. The husband and others then broke into the apartment and found the place in disarray. Many expensive furniture were missing and most of her jewellery gone, it was obvious the house had been carefully burgled by an insider.
While going round to check the level of stealing that had taken place in the home, the husband opened his wife’s freezer in the kitchen only to be greeted with the lifeless body of Hajia Afshatu's inside with lacerations on her neck and other parts of her body. Upon the sad discovery, men of the Nigeria Police Force, Garki, were called in.
Neighbours told the police they had seen the house help driving the woman's SUV some days earlier but didn’t have any reason to suspect him. Upon preliminary findings, it was discovered to be an in-house robbery and murder, perpetuated by the late woman’s two missing staff - the house help and driver. The two guys have since disappeared with her two cars, cheque book, as well as physical cash.
The late Hajia Afshatu's security man is still with the police... Another side of the story is that the police have arrested a man who tried to withdraw money from the late Hajia Afshatu’s account. It could not be ascertain as at the time of posting if the man is one of the two wanted men or another person. On their part, the police say investigation is still on and they are still on the trail of anyone and everyone connected to the murder.
