An Abuja Magistrates’ Court sentenced a middle-aged man on Wednesday to two months’ imprisonment for stealing two lemon and lime Orbit Wrigley chewing gum from a supermarket at Wuse II, Abuja. Onade Tosin, was convicted for theft, an offence contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The accused also stole one Sultana bran, adding that the total value of the stolen items was N4,270. The accused confessed to the crime during police investigation.When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, while the prosecutor asked for his summary trial.
Magistrate Ann Akobi sentenced the accused to two months’ imprisonment or to pay N1,000 as fine.
